Shadow Box Gift Box

How to gift a notebook and pen that was purchased separately? Cased concept of shadow box frame from Intatwyne Designs, adjusted to fit the measurements required. Card had already been made, so used the same Follow Your Art suite to match. This type of shadow box frame is made in four pieces and can be created to fit any size by adjusting the size required.

Box required for the items to fit is 5 x 6 inches, plus allow for the depth in this case 0.75 inches on all sides.

Coloured Cardstock for shadow frame – 4 pieces 3.5 x 7.5 inches, score on short side at 0.75,1.5, 2.25, 3 inches; on 2 pieces score on the long side at 0.5 and 7 inches; score on short side to the second score line only at 1.25 and 6.25 inches
Coloured Cardstock for bottom of box – 6.5 x 7.5 inches
Coloured Cardstock for lid – 8-1/16 x9-1/16 inches, score on each side at 0.75 inches
Whisper White cardstock – sentiment and pens
DSP – 5-7/8 x 4-7/8 inches; piece for sentiment layer

The two side pieces of the shadow frame do not need any cutting done to them, the top and bottom shadow frame pieces need cutting and pieces removing. Cut down the mark to the second score line, then diagonally to the next score line (0.5 inch), then straight to form a tab, then other side of the tab and straight down (see photo below), tabs need to be mitred slightly on each side, tabs are used to join pieces together.

Adhere the shadow box frame pieces together by the tabs, ensuring the score lines align, i.e. tab, side, tab, side pieces, finally join up all the pieces.

You should now have something that looks like this

Now adhere each piece to form the shadow box frame by starting with the side pieces, then top and bottom ensuring that the diagonal on top has glue added. Use a flat surface to help ensure the pieces remain in the correct shape.

Adhere liquid glue to the bottom of each piece of the shadow box frame and add the base of the box.

Now make the lid – cut lid as shown, mitre the tabs, on each side add finger guide with 3/4 inch circle punch to assist in removal of lid.

Adhere the DSP to the lid and adhere the tabs to form the lid. Add the layered sentiment centrally and adhere the pens with dimensionals, box is now complete for contents to be added.
