Concertina Card – How Sweet It Is

The card today is for a 12 year old but unlike other age cards I have created recently did not include the numbers. I enjoy creating fancy fold cards and this was cased from Mixed Up Craft using the Sweetest Thing bundle, Coastal Cabana cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Silver foil and How Sweet It Is DSP.

Coloured cardstock 10 x 7, score on long side at 5 inches (card base); 4.75 x 7 inches, score on long side at 1.75 and 5.25 inches, flip over score on long side at 3.5 inches (interlocking concertina piece); 6.75 x 4.75 inches (back of card for message)
Whisper White cardstock 10.5 x 6.75 inches, score on long side at 1.75, 5.25 and 8.75 inches, flip over score on long side at 3.5 and 7 inches (flipping cardstock over prevents it from cracking when folding concertina), score on short side starting from first score line down to last score line at 1.75 and 5 inches (main concertina piece)
DSP – 2 pieces 1.5 x 6.5 inches (2 inside panels); 6.5 x 4.5 inches (top layer front of card)
Cardstock or DSP – 8 pieces 1.5 x 1.5 inches (8 small squares)
Foil, cardstock or DSP – 4 pieces 1.5 x 4.5 inches (4 inside middle panels); 6.75 x 4.75 inches (layer front of card)

For the main concertina piece you need to remove the middle section (red lines) as shown below. In order for the interlocking piece to sit within the main piece you need to cut each panel top and bottom (shown by blue lines below) – the best way to do this is to mark the centre point on each panel and then measure 7/8 inch up from the removed section and cut, once cut slightly mitre each cut (do not take off too much otherwise the interlocking piece will move about). Once you have done this burnish the score lines carefully by starting with a valley fold, then a mountain fold, followed by another valley, mountain finishing with a valley fold. Decorate this main piece with the sides panels and 8 small squares, remember to recut the blue lines on the layer added.

You can decorate your message piece and adhere to the back of the card now or wait until the concertina piece has been adhered.

Lay card base flat and main constrain piece, using liquid glue adhere the side panel (concertina piece) to the base one end at a time ensuring that it is adhered centrally to the card base. For the interlocking piece decorate with the 4 pieces centrally in each section, burnish the score lines and fold starting with valley fold, mountain fold and finally valley fold. Carefully slot the interlocking piece into the main concertina piece, notice that the folds will be opposite.

Decorate the card as required and it is now complete.
